In 1986, Frederick "Freddie" Prise was sworn in as a Hackensack Police Officer. A few years later, he was assigned as a Detective in the Youth Division, where he dedicated himself to protecting and guiding the children of Hackensack. His work focused on investigating crimes involving children and making a lasting impact on the community’s youth.
Tragically, on July 25, 2002, Detective Prise lost his life in a motor vehicle accident. To honor his memory and continue his legacy of service, Hackensack PBA Local 9 established the Freddie Prise Scholarship. Each year, this scholarship supports one male and one female student from Hackensack High School who have demonstrated academic excellence and a commitment to community service. Recipients will each receive a $500 scholarship to assist them in their educational journey, ensuring that Detective Prise’s dedication to Hackensack’s youth lives on. Submission by May 12th.
Hackensack PBA Local 9 is proud to support the families of its active members through an annual scholarship program. Any active member with a child in their final year of high school is eligible for a scholarship of up to $500. If more than two students qualify in a given year, the total available funds are capped at $2,000 and will be evenly divided among all eligible recipients.
This scholarship reflects our commitment to supporting the next generation and recognizing the hard work and dedication of our members' families.
